So you finally pulled the trigger. You bought those overalls that look so dang cute on the model. You get them home and plan to wear them for so many things. Then you go to put them on and you look in your closet…what the heck do I even wear with these?

Well, I can help with that. Overalls can be tricky. They are a statement piece in and of themselves so when you wear them for the first time it can be a little overwhelming. And you might even feel a little silly. I know I did.

So through a little (okay maybe a lot) trial and error I’ve styled these Madewell overalls more ways than I can count. Today I’m partnering up with Sarah from The Sarah Stories to show you all the ways to style overalls for Summer and Fall. Sarah has amazing style and I know you’ll love the looks she’s put together! Check her’s out here and scroll down for mine.

Tell me — which looks are your favorite? Any you plan on trying for yourself?

A basic tank and flats (or sandals) is one of the easiest ways to wear overalls. And if you are trying them for the first time, this is where I recommend you start. Stick with a basic color in a fitted style. The one thing that’s hard to get over when you wear overalls for the first time is the fit. It doesn’t always feel that flattering. So when you can combine that with a form fitting top it helps create a balance that should feel more complimentary.

Ready to take it up a notch? A looser fit blouse or patterned top is another great style. You’ll end up tucking some of that extra material into the sides and that’s totally okay. I suggest pairing it with simple accessories like mule slides or flats and simple jewelry to keep the focus on the top.

Are you ready for Fall?! It’s coming! And the easiest way to transition your overalls into the new season is with a cardigan. Take your first simple Summer look and add a layer. It can be chunky or thin, short or long — any cardigan will work. I paired mine with a felt hat for some extra Fall feels.

Getting all the 90’s vibes from this look and I am here for it. I was a little skeptical at first about pairing tall boots with overalls, but I’m really loving it. These ones from Madewell have been a staple in my closet for years — stick with a classic and simple style to avoid looking too extra.

Fall season is scarf season and they are the perfect accessory to add to any look — overalls included. Plus when the winter rolls around, you know I love a good rain boot. This look is a little city girl meets farm girl and I’m not mad about it.
