It’s crazy to think Independence Day is right around the corner. That means it’s almost July! I’ve loved making themed boards lately because it not only gives me an excuse to make one but they are so fun and festive! I thought finding red, white and especially blue items was going to be a bit challenging but there are so many things at Target and Party City that are 4th of July themed it made it super easy!

Jamie and I actually went into Party City looking for a star shaped cookie cutter for the cheese slices and came out with so many other fun things! They have an entire candy wall that is rainbow colored! It was like board heaven! I got so many more fun ideas that I can’t wait to share with you!

For now, I stuck with the 4th of July and I’m so happy with how it turned out. Here’s what I did:

  1. Cut up all the fruit and cheese. This made the assembly way easier because you know everything you have to work with. For the star shaped cheese, I used the deli sliced cheese and the star shaped cookie cutter; super easy.

  2. Place the bowls on the board. I used white bowls because they were in the “white” section of the board. If you want to put any red or blue items in bowls I would suggest using clear ones so the white doesn’t stick out.

  3. Place about half of each item on the board, starting with red, then white, then blue. You want to make sure you can fit everything, so I always suggest not putting all of one color on at the beginning. You risk running out of room and having to start over.

  4. Once you get everything where you want it, start filling it in. Fill it all in and stack it high. People need lots of food.

I would love to see your boards so if you post them, remember to use #cerriouslyimadeit so I can follow along.

tools

  • Board or Tray — I used a long rectangular board this time just for something different. You can also use a sheet tray or a circle board if that’s what you have on hand.

  • Small Bowls — This set from Williams Sonoma comes with 4 bowls and I used one of them for the nacho cheese. The clear bowls I recommend are this set of stack-able bowls; it includes all sizes.

  • American Flag Picks — I threw a couple on the board for decoration. You can also leave them out so guest can use them to grab what they want.
